Don't expect the narrative about Florida Football to change after SEC Media Days
SEC Media Days are off an running in Dallas and today Florida Football coach Billy Napier will take to the podium at 1:50 PM to speak to members of the SEC media and give his outlook on the Gators for the 2024 season.
But while his comments will make headlines and we will all give commentary based on what he says, the truth is that the overarching narrative surrounding the Gators is going to be the same on July 18 as it is today on July 17.
Florida Football: Cut A Promo
If you a seen a Billy Napier press conference over the past two years, then you know he is not a showman in there settings. The vision many of us had about "Scared money don't make money" hasn't actually panned out as Napier keeps things close the vest and we would be shocked if he said anything ground breaking today in Dallas.
He is probably going to express confidence that Florida has everything in place to turn it around this season. He is going to point out that the Gators have made changes across the board heading into 2024. He'll get asked about DJ Lagway, Tre Wilson, and Ron Roberts among others and give praise. He'll probably be asked about special teams and he'll probably talk about Joe Houston.
In truth, we could probably take the transcripts from all his press conferences from this entire offseason, plug them into Chat GPT, and have it spit something out that will mirror what he is going to say today.
Someone out there is going to talk about "Winners and Losers" from SEC Media Days and will probably put Napier in the loser category because he isn't going to say anything bombastic or exciting, especially for a coach on the hot seat.
Napier isn't going to have an exciting SEC Media Day today and that's okay. Because whether he claims Florida is going to win a national title or whether he thinks Florida is going to be terrible, all he is doing today is laying out a vision for the Gators.
No matter what that vision is, it won't be until August 31 any of it truly matters.
