Don't expect pleasantries as Florida Baseball takes on UCF
Coming off a series win over Miami, Florida Baseball has to turn its attention to another instate foe for a mid-week matchup against an opponent the Gators do not have a ton of recent history with.
And while there won't be a ton of familiarity, don't expect tonight's game to be chalked with pleasantries either.
Florida Baseball: Space Ghost
UCF is coming to town with an 8-1 record. They too have a win over Miami and are coming off a series win over USF this past weekend.
This will be the first time the two squads have met since 2019, so while tonight may not have the spice we have seen in the Miami series these past couple of series, we wouldn't be shocked to see the temperature rise a bit tonight.
For starters, UCF has five former Gators on their squad: Corey Robinson, Chase Centala, Carsten Finnvold, Tyler Nesbitt, and Matt Prevesk are all Knights after originally being Gators.
Prevesk in particular is having a breakout year with UCF, After starting 11 games for Florida over two season, the outfield now leads the Knights in hitting with a .432 batting average. Centala is also having a great year out of the bullpen and has yet to allow a run in seven innings of work.
Combine that backdrop with the fact that UCF always finds a way to push buttons when playing Florida, no matter what the sport is, and the potential for some grade A chirping is alive tonight.
Luke McNeillie is slated to get the start for the Gators tonight. He is coming off a disappointing start against Stetson last week where he gave up five runs and was bounced in the first inning. He also made an appearance against Miami over the weekend out of the bullpen with similar results.
