For 21 months, Florida Football fans have been waiting the formal arrival of DJ Lagway. While the five star QB did see action in the fourth quarter against Miami, he made his first formal start on Saturday against Samford while Graham Mertz was sidelined with a concussion.

Lagway checked all the boxes as he threw for 456 yards and three touchdown.

After the game he talked about some of the highlight moments in Florida's 45-7 win.

Florida Football: The Future Is Now

One of the early throws Lagway made that made it clear he has all the arm strength one could hope for was a first quarter throw he made to Elijhah Badger. With time in the pocket, Lagway launched a pass that hit Badger in stride for a 77 yard gain.

"It just sort of worked out that way. I feel like I've got a great relationship with every guy. I know what they want, I know what they like, what routes they like the best. I think that just comes down to the relationship I have with those guys individually.

Just really following my rules, you know. Each play has rules to it, following progressions, and that was on the progression first, so you might as well take it."

Florida went into the half up just 14-0, but came out firing in the third quarter. Lagway found freshman reciever Tank Hawkins for a 36-yard touchdown. When Lagway was asked which throw stood out the most on Saturday, that's the one he highlighted.

"I would say the one to Tank Hawkins. That's one of my best friends here. So it was a real moment to get our first touchdown together. That was pretty cool."

For most fans, the highlight throw was the touchdown he made to Aidan Mizell to make it 28-7. Lagway stepped up in the pocket and with a flick of the wrist tossed a 41 yard strike.

"On that play, just trust my receiver. My man is better than their man. That's the biggest thing. We'd been working since January, so I have trust in Aidan among all my other receivers, so yeah."
