Florida basketball is coming off a strong week where it picked up its first Quad One win of the season against Mississippi State, and survived a near meltdown against Georgia to head into the week with a three game wining streak.

But despite the 14-6 record and decent computer ranking numbers, the Gators are still unranked heading into February.

Florida Basketball: The Climb

In the latest AP Top 25 poll for men's basketball, UConn continue to lead the way and are ranked number one in the country.

The Gators continue to be unranked and failed to receive a single vote in the poll.

In reality, the Gators are probably not one of the top 25 teams in the country. Its blowout loss to Tennessee revealed a flawed squad that still has a ways to go before it can consider itself a true contender.

And the computer rankings would back up that Florida isn't a top 25 squad. The Gators are currently 39th in the NCAA NET Rankings and 35th in the KenPom Rankings.

But there are a handful of teams receiving votes that Florida could make a case they should be ahead. Texas, Colorado State, Northwestern, and South Carolina are all teams the Gators are ranked ahead of in the computer rankings that received votes this week.

As the Gators fight for their NCAA Tournament lives, Florida will have plenty of opportunity to prove itself among the nation's best. Their next chance will be this week against Kentucky.
