Despite what Quinn Ewers says, Florida Football fans aren't in awe of Texas

Texas is now an official member of the SEC. That doesn't mean Florida fans have the game against the Longhorns circled.

For the first time since 1940, Florida Football will take on the Texas Longhorns during the 2024 season. The two schools had previously agreed to a home-and-home meeting in 2030, but with Texas now officially a member of the SEC, the two teams will square off in Austin in November.

As they move into their new conference, Texas has been getting a bunch of questions about what they think life will be like in the SEC. Quarterback Quinn Ewers had a head-scratching answer about how he thinks other teams are going to react to the Longhorns.

Florida Football: You're Not In Kansas Anymore

Ewers was at the Manning Passing Academy last week when he was asked what he expects life to be like now that the Longhorns are no longer in the Big 12.

"We’re going to be everybody’s biggest game, for sure. It’s definitely a different level. I’ve always wanted to play in the SEC. I know we’re all excited to be a part of a conference like that."

Quinn Ewers

He is correct that the SEC is a different level. But to suggest that Texas is going to be everyone's biggest game is, well, just not accurate.

For Florida alone their games against Miami, Tennessee, Georgia, and FSU will carry more weight than the one against Texas. Hell, even LSU and Kentucky feel like more important games for the Gators than their meeting against Texas.

In fact, since the days of Vince Young, Texas has shared a lot of parallels with Florida as a once proud power that has struggled over the past decade. Since 2010, Texas has won ten or more games just twice. Even Florida has managed to win double-digit games four times in that same time span.

Since 2015, both programs are on their third head coach.

Prior to their renaissance year last season, Texas hadn't won a conference title since 2010 or been granted a berth in the college football playoffs.

Who is circling who on the schedule?

The November 9th meeting between the two schools will be a fun game for sure, and Texas will be considered the favorite, but the level of self-righteousness pretending they are going to enter the SEC and have everyone bow down is comical.

Texas needs the SEC more than the SEC needs Texas.

That's why it's a different level.
