The transfer portal for college basketball is heating up and Florida Basketball is contacting a number of entrants to gauge their interest.
Among the player's Todd Golden has touched base with is guard De'Shayne Montgomery from Mount St. Mary's.
Florida Basketball: Portal God Todd
Montgomery was a true freshman this past season and averaged 13.2 points, with a season-high 27 coming against Siena. The Ft. Lauderdale native was a rotation player before he became a starter for Mount St. Mary's final six games of the season.
Montgomery is not a flashy name but he does play a style that would fit within Golden's system. He doesn't fear pushing the ball in transition and is always looking to jump passing lanes. He ended the season with 54 steals, averaging one steal every 16.5 minutes. By comparison, Tyrese Samuel led Florida in steals this season with 41, and his rate was on steal every 23 minutes.
Turnovers were a problem for Montgomery and his 90 turnovers were more than any Gator accumulated.
He finished as the MAAC Rookie of the Year and has interest from LSU, Arkansas, Clemson, TCU, and Ole Miss among others.
