As the Florida Gators prepare for their season opener against Miami on August 31, Head Coach Billy Napier highlighted the offense's progress during fall camp.

Following the team's first scrimmage at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Napier highlighted the offensive unit's development and focus areas as the kickoff countdown gets closer and closer.

Napier praised the offense for consistently moving the ball and scoring points during the scrimmage. However, he emphasized the need for more explosive plays.

"We moved the ball really well. We were very consistent. We scored a lot of points. But we know that explosive plays are a significant piece of winning," Napier said. This week, the coaching staff is emphasizing generating those game-changing moments.

Tank Hawkins did provide some of that explosion, and Napier made it a point to highlight two touchdowns the true freshman had in the scrimmage.

With Montrell Johnson still sidelined with a knee injury, the rest of the running backs have also shown significant progress. Napier noted that the transition from high school to college football is challenging, particularly in terms of the speed and size of opponents. He pointed out a specific play in the scrimmage where KD Daniels showcased his vision and acceleration, nearly breaking free for a touchdown. "That group's coming along," Napier remarked, indicating that the tailbacks are becoming more comfortable and instinctual in their roles.

The offense's tempo is another area of focus, with Napier pushing for quicker execution between plays. The goal is to consistently get plays off in the low 20s in terms of seconds, with the ability to accelerate even more when needed.

It should be noted that Napier didn't touch on the offensive line, which has been a continued source of mystery for Gator fans. While there seems to be a clear picture of who Florida plans to roll out along the line against Miami, it's still a group that will only have two starters at best playing in the same spot from 2023 (Austin Barber at LT and Jake Slaughter at C). Whether or not the group will be ready by August 31 as a cohesive unit remains to be seen.
