Ben Hill Griffin Stadium Capacity: The 5 biggest crowds in Florida Football history
One of the grand debates surrounding Florida Football is what to do with capacity inside The Swamp. The powers that be seem determined to reduce capacity under the guise that Florida isn't consistently filling up Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
Whether or not The Swamp needs fewer seats is a debate for a different piece, but at its best, Florida has no problem packing over 90,000 fans into the stadium to cheer on the Gators.
The following are the five largest crowds to ever cheer on Florida inside The Swamp.
Florida Football Largest Crowds
#5
The fifth-largest crowd to roll into The Swamp was fairly recent when 90,887 people saw Florida take on Alabama. Coming off the ill-fated ending to the 2020 season, this was Florida's chance to firmly plant itself among the elite in college football.
It didn't look promising through the first quarter as the Gators fell behind 21-3, but scrapped together a touchdown in the second quarter while the defense started to stiffen up. Unfortunately Florida missed the extra point and it would come back to haunt the Gators.
Florida nearly completed the comeback, but a touchdown with 3:10 left made it 31-29, forcing the Gators to go for two. They failed, and Alabama escaped with the win.
Florida would go on to finish the season 6-7, and Dan Mullen was fired.
