Over the years Florida Football has attempted a variety of themed games for fans to coordinate with. Blue outs, Orange outs, and last year the Gators introduced a Black out.

Yesterday the Gators announced their theme for the season opener against Miami and fans online did not respond well to the theme.

Florida Football: Wear White

Spoiler alert: It's going to be hot in The Swamp at 3:30 on August 31. Right now, projections have a heat index up to 101 degrees and a UV index of 7.

Given that, Florida took to social media yesterday to announce the opener will be a "White Out" game and fans are encouraged to wear white for the game.

The reactions didn't exactly elicit enthusiasm among Gator Nation.

"Really thought it would be blue for the fact Miami is wearing all white uni’s"

"Oh no"

"Wet t-shirt contest"

"Why on earth would we wear white to that game? Jesus. Everyone will be in blue. We're playing Miami"

"Opening game at home and you want the fans to wear the same color as the visitors jerseys? Just delete this."

"Yea we’re not following this at all LMAOOO we’re wearing blue"

"How about wear blue! Ya know the color that isn’t one of the opponents."

"Change it to Blue. It’s not too late to admit your mistake and correct it!"

"NCAA 25 showed blue so ima wear blue"

"Wear Blue! Go Gators!"

"Probably should wear blue"

"I’ll be in blue, like most Gator fans"

"I highly recommended updating this to blue."

"Nobody is doing this lol it’s Miami, everyone is strolling into Gainesville wearing blue"

There are countless more reactions we could pull from, but at there are two main issues with Florida's attempt to have fans wear white for the game:

  1. White is not a color associated with Florida, but it is a color associated with Miami. More specifically, the "White Out" is most associated with Penn State.
  2. In a very unscientific poll of Gator fans, a lot of Florida fans don't even own a white Florida Gators shirt.

We here at Hail Florida Hail have a feeling it's going to be a blended mix of 65% of fans wearing blue, 20% of fans wearing white, and 15% wearing orange in the stands on August 31.

And if Florida was hoping for a white out, the numbers don't lie and they spell disaster for this theme.
