Aidan Mizell highlight reel TD for Florida Football brought back due to semantics
As Florida Football looks to close out Mississippi State in Starkville, freshman Aidan Mizell made a play that should wind up on SportsCenter Top Ten and live in Gator lore for quite some time.
But due to semantics from the refs, a special play was called back due to a questionable penalty.
Florida Football: Move On Back
In the third quarter, Mizell caught a pass on Florida's 40 yard line and made no less than eight Bulldog defenders miss en route to what should have been a 65 yard touchdown.
Just one problem from the view of the officials, Montrell Johnson dared to deliver a block.
Officially, Johnson was called for a crackback block on a blindside Mississippi State defender. And to be fair, he was shaken up on the play and was seen on the ground afterwards.
This is where common sense compared to letter of the law matters. It's not as if Johnson came from nowhere, he was standing there the entire time. And the only reason the Mississippi State player had no clue Johnson was there was because he never bothered to swivel his head.
In addition, Johnson didn't catch him in the head, it was a hard block into the shoulder.
But in modern-day football, the powers that be would tell you Johnson should have laid up and just stood there as the Bulldog defender ran straight toward him.
The good news is that Florida was still able to score a touchdown on the drive despite the penalty.
