Week one of the college football season is in the books and virtually everyone we thought who would be a playoff contender for the 2024 season held serve. Some played cupcakes while others did go out and challenge themselves.

Compared to our preseason predictions, there is only one change we have made among who the 12 teams left standing are going to be come December, but we did shuffle the order around a bit compared to what we predicted in the preseason.

Keep in mind that the top four seeds go to conference champions and a bye in the first round. The five highest ranked conference champions as a whole get automatic bids and seven at large bids make up the rest of the field.

A couple of notable changes from our preseason prediction include Miami winning the ACC and Ohio State winning the Big Ten.

We were not believers in the Hurricanes prior to the season and this is still a Mario Critobal led team that has time to blow it, but it is hard to argue against them winning the ACC after what has transpired through one week. FSU lost to Georgia Tech and Boston College, Clemson was blasted by Georgia, Virginia Tech lost to Vanderbilt, NC State had to slog its way through Western Carolina.

The only other potential contender in the ACC who looked the part on Saturday was Louisville.

We also flip flopped our Big 10 prediction after Oregon struggled mightily to get past an Idaho team it was favored to beat by 49.5 points.

We are still taking a flyer on USF to win the AAC even though smart money would tell one to pick Memphis. Boise State is also expected to contend for being the fifth-best conference champ, though they had to come from behind in the fourth quarter against Georgia Southern.
