2024 Preseason 12-team College Football Playoff rankings prediction
College football is almost back, and for 134 schools around the country, hope springs eternal, even the Florida Gators. With the brand new expanded playoffs for 2024, way more teams are going to enter the year with a real chance of making the playoffs.
The format for 2024 has the top five ranked conference champions getting an auto bid to the playoffs, with the top four ranked conference champs getting a bye in the first round of the playoffs. The remaining seven slots will be given to at large teams.
It is with that in mind that these are our preseason predictions here at Hail Florida Hail for who will make the 2024 College Football Playoff
Seed | Team | How They Got Here |
---|---|---|
1 | Georgia | SEC Champ |
2 | Oregon | Big Ten Champ |
3 | Utah | Big 12 Champ |
4 | FSU | ACC Champ |
5 | Oho State | At Large |
6 | Texas | At Large |
7 | Alabama | At Large |
8 | Notre Dame | At Large |
9 | Michigan | At Large |
10 | Ole Miss | At Large |
11 | Penn State | At Large |
12 | USF | AAC Champ |
Until Georgia proves the wheels have fallen off (on the field, not off), it is hard to lodge a prediction against them and whoever emerges as the SEC champion will probably be the number one oveall seed.
The Big Ten also feels open with Michigan, Ohio State, and Washington in the mix. Is there an analytical reason to pick Oregon? Maybe not. But going on vibes and feeling, Dan Lanning has all the tools for a massive breakthrough.
Super senior Cam Rising should be a massive boon for Utah in the Big 12 and the ACC will come down to your pick betwen FSU and Clemson. Given the momentum for Dabo Swinney isn't trending in the correct direction, it won't be shocking to see FSU get in.
The at large bids are the usual suspects, but notably it is hard to envision and ACC or Big 12 squad sneaking in as at large.
At the 12 seed is the fifth-best conference champion as an auto bid. Most publications have Memphis winning the AAC and Boise State winning the Mountain West. But don't sleep on what is happening in Tampa, and if you want an ultimate wild card to keep an eye on in 2024, USF might just sneak past Memphis and force their way into the playoff.
