This Lane Kiffin-to-Florida chatter is already at a high point, and it's not going to get any quieter as the regular season rolls into its final month.
That will especially be the case when Ole Miss is on the road and the Rebels are at the mercy of the opposing crowd. Ole Miss is playing Oklahoma today in what could be considered a playoff eliminator and the Sooner fans decided to greet the Rebels coach and players with a friendly Gator chomp.

This reminds us of what today's world of instant communication does. The Ole Miss players cannot escape rumors about their coach likely leaving for another job in the conference. They hear about it every day from every angle. There was a time when a road trip allowed you to escape a lot of the outside noise, but the outside noise travels now.
That's probably why Kiffin decided to meet with his team yesterday and tell them not to worry about things that aren't pertinent to today's game and what they are trying to accomplish this season. He made those statements without tipping his hand about his future plans. So far, it seems to have worked as Ole Miss is up 22-10 on Oklahoma as the game approaches halftime.
What are others saying about the Gators job?
This morning on College GameDay, the talking heads panel mentioned Jon Gruden and James Franklin as two possible candidates. There's a general belief that Gruden wants to get back into coaching, but it's hard to say if college football would be a good fit for him. There's also some baggage with Gruden that might get leaked out a little more freely if he's back as a head coach. The last thing the Florida administration would want is to bring in someone that could have controversy surrounding him immediately.
Franklin is obviously much more suited to the college game and certainly has a good resume of winning seasons and putting programs in a good place to compete. But he has fallen short when the lights are brightest, and even though his team have a very good floor, and he'll recruit well, the questions about him being able to level up are bad.
I still with my current feeling that it's Kiffin's job if he wants it and, if not, the decision makers will quickly pivot to Washington coach Jeff Fisch.
