New head coach John Sumrall has been working hard to try to build the 2027 recruiting class in order to build a strong roster for the future of Gator football. One of his top targets right now is a four-star quarterback Champs Monds, who has been eyeing the Gators since before Sumrall got the job in Gainesville
As a Florida native, Gainesville seems like a no-brainer for Monds, and his visit recently has proven that he is still high on the Gators. Rivals recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong really likes the position that Florida is in when it comes to landing Monds' commitment. Wiltfong was able to talk to Monds after his visit to Gainesville, and he had a lot of great things to say
"We talked about Coach Sumrall's vision for winning championships, he said the environment was great, he really enjoyed his time around the new staff and the former staff that's there," Wiltfong said.
"I love where the Gators are positioned"@SWiltfong_ says QB Champ Monds is a priority for Jon Sumrall and the new Florida coaching staff 🐊

Monds was really able to get to know more about who Florida is now under Sumrall and really likes the facilities and who the Gators are after recruiting-wise. It also helps that Florida is in the SEC, and Monds can have the opportunity to compete at the highest level in college football.
According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Monds is ranked as the No. 17 quarterback in the Class of 2027 and the No. 28 player in the state of Florida, and for a young kid getting ready to start his college career, the thought of playing close to home is a big factor, and the Gators offer that.
This could be a huge score for Sumrall, getting a quarterback for the future that is all in on what he is planning to accomplish going forward. Monds could be a great fit, and it just feels like Florida is leading this race right now for his commitment.
