It was nice on Sunday as the Gators not only evicerated Alabama to the underworld, but Florida was also viewed as the good guys in the college basketball universe for dismantling the circus G League side show the Crimson Tide tried to bring to town.
On Monday, plenty of praise came in for Florida as they continue their march towards trying to lock down a regular-season SEC title.
Florida moves up in the AP Top 25
After dropping last week following their loss to Auburn, Florida moved back up in the AP Top 25 from 19th up to 17th. One could make a case that Florida should be ranked higher, especially considering they are now 7th in KenPom, but their six total losses continue to be a mental block for voters to overcome. For what it is worth, Florida is the highest-ranked six-loss team and is ahead of several other Power Four teams with fewer losses.
While the team honors may not have been vast, the individual honors for Florida were.
Rueben Chinyelu drew national praise for his defensive performance and looked like the actual professional center on the court. His one-man show going into halftime has ESPN declaring him the best defensive player in the country. His 14 points and 17 rebounds earned him the Naismith Player of the Week.
Hidden in part due to Chinyelu’s performance, Alex Condon also had a monster day against Alabama. After just one point against Auburn, Condon recovered and almost had a triple-double against South Carolina and followed it up with 25 points on Sunday.
That week earned him Co-SEC Player of the Week honors.
