Miami working to flip in-state Florida 4-star commit is not good at all

An early commitment could become an in-state recruiting battle

The Gators got a jump on their 2027 recruiting class several weeks ago when they received a pledge from four-star in-state athlete Tramond Collins. Now it's time to play some defense.

Collins recently received an offer from Miami and the Cottondale prospect seems to have mutual interest in the Hurricanes.

There's not a lot to worry about yet. The Early Signing Period for the 2027 class is about a year and a half away, and it's not a big surprise to see a player that committed to a program early take a step back and see what other options are available. Don't be surprised if Collins, a 6-foot-2 dynamic playmaker, gets a lot of national attention because he's so good with the ball in his hands.

The good news here is that the Gators already have the commitment, which means that they are likely going to be involved in Collins' recruitment until the very end. Whether he decides to back away from his commitment in a few months, like many 2027 prospects do, it will be alright because Florida is still going to be the program to beat.

Gators' 2027 recruiting plans are coming into focus

The Gators are a long way from being able to completely focus on the 2027 recruiting class, but some things are starting to take shape. Florida will be on the hunt for a quarterback and have been aggressively pursuing Louisiana prospect Elijah Haven.

Haven is currently the top-ranked player in the 2027 class. It would be an amazing coup for this staff to have Haven in the fold if DJ Lagway leaves after his junior season, as many top quarterbacks tend to do. Haven says that Florida is the team that contacts him the most.

Florida is also in early on the recruitment of Colton Nussmeier. Obviously, the name sounds very familiar. His older brother Garrett is currently the projected starting quarterback at LSU and his father, Doug, spent three seasons with the Gators as the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach (2015-2017).

Don't be surprised if Florida receives a pledge from its quarterback of the future before the end of the season.
