As I've said before, Billy Gonzales is a good man who's doing his best to keep watch on the Gators football program until the new head coach is announced.
Gonzales isn't in a position to be asked many questions about the coaching vacancy and the search. Those questions should be directed to the athletic director, Scott Stricklin. But Gonzales was asked if he thought Lane Kiffin was a good fit for the Gators program and answered it in the smartest way possible.
Florida interim coach Billy Gonzales asked if Lane Kiffin would be a good fit for the Gators:

"I probably shouldn't even answer those questions, to be honest with you."

"He's a really good football coach. There are a lot of really good football coaches, he's definitely one of them," Gonzales concluded.
Expect the Kiffin questions to continue
With Ole Miss on the schedule this week, Gonzales had to expect he was going to be asked something about Kiffin. That particular wasn't exactly the most professional or well-structured, but these inquiries are going to continue.
If the Gators can pull the upset Saturday night in Oxford, the question will be if Kiffin is really the guy for the job. If Ole Miss wins handily, the questions about Kiffin's potential fit in Gainesville will continue. For Gonzales, it's pretty much a lose-lose situation. He's being asked his opinion on something he has no say over and probably doesn't want to talk about publicly.
Gonzales stands by Lagway...for now
With the potential of freshman Trammell Jones taking a redshirt and being unavailable for the rest of the season, the ball is back in DJ Lagway's hands...for now.
The sophomore quarterback was benched last week in the 38-7 loss to Kentucky after a dreadful performance. Lagway hasn't been able to put it together this year, and he could be a player that decides to search for another situation after the season.
But there are still some big games to play and opportunities for Lagway to put good film on tape and play spoiler to some playoff hopefuls. Gonzales believes that Lagway still has a lot of good football left in him.
"Every great athlete I've ever been around wants to compete at a high level, and they want to make the play. So, you know, DJ's the same way. He wants to make the play," Gonzales said. "I want you to relax. I want you to just go play. I know you want to make the play, and you have just got to home in, make great decisions."
