Kirk Herbstreit gives Florida and Billy Napier take that Gators fans are going to love

For once, Kirk Herbstreit has something nice to say about a school in Florida, and luckily, it is about the Gators.

Kirk Herbstreit has become a college football analyst who certainly isn't going to sugarcoat what he thinks about your team. The ESPN College Gameday analyst has not always had the kindest things to say about the Florida Gators, especially when things were looking bleak in Gainesville last season; however, he seems to have changed his tune.

Herbstreit joined fellow gameday personality Pat McAfee on the Pat McAfee Show to talk about the upcoming college football season, and the Gators became a topic of competition. Herbstreit admitted that he was on the "Fire Billy Napier" train at one point last season, but he was also impressed with how well Napier was able to pull the team together at the end of the season.

Napier wasn't the only Gator to receive praise from Herbstreit, as the notorious analyst also had some great words for Florida quarterback DJ Lagway. Herbstreit gave Lagway some great praise with what he had to say about the quarterback, especially with the type of guy he is on the field.

"Lagway, to me, if you are trying to find the guy that in the middle of October we're talking about, 'where's this guy?' I'm telling you, that's the guy," Hebstreit said. "We know about Sellers, we know about I think it's Mateer at Oklahoma has a chance, but I think if there is a guy, it's DJ Lagway at Florida that a lot of people are going to fall in love with."

Herbstreit doesn't have to convince Florida fans to love Lagway, as this fanbase is already behind him and has been since the beginning of last season. When Lagway took over the starting quarterback duties last season, that is when things really started to turn around for the Gators.

As a freshman, Lagway, also only really playing about half of the season, had 1,915 yards and 12 touchdowns, but he did have nine interceptions. The young quarterback now has a whole offseason working and getting stronger with his squad around him. If he can lower his number of turnovers, then he truly has the ability to be a Heisman candidate this season.

Herbstreit continued to praise Lagway, but also continued to praise NApier, even going as far as saying he was proud of the way he was able to turn the season around last season, especially with how he came into the season and started it.

"Give Napier credit for the culture, but also give the players and the leaders of that team a lot of credit for not just cashing in and saying I'm out," Herbstreit said in the end.

Herbstreit will now head into his third season under the Florida Gators, and hopes are high with Lagway under center and this team that Napier has built, but all will be known once the season officially arrives.
