Win or lose, we should applaud Jon Sumrall and his staff for the work the Florida Gators are trying to do to flip five-star Jalen Brewster away from Texas Tech. The 6-foot-3, 302-pound defensive lineman from Cedar Hill, Texas is the No. 1 overall player on the 247Sports Composite for the 2027 class. He has been committed to Texas Tech in-state since early October of last year. A lot could be changing...

Here is a picture of Florida defensive line coach Gerald Chatman making a visit to Texas here recently.

Right now, Brewster has 29 officials offers and an upcoming visit with Miami on May 29. He just took a visit to Indiana last weekend. One would think Florida could be getting one from him at some point in the future. Again, we have to give Chatman and the rest of Sumrall's staff credit for taking a home-run cut to try to land Brewster, one Gator Chomp at a time. There is also this reason he might be flipping...

Texas Tech is dripping in financial capital because of Cody Campbell, but they are in a bit of hot water.

Florida could flip 5-star DL Jalen Brewster over big Texas Tech concerns

Let's not beat around the bush here. With Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby seeking treatment for his gambling addiction, this opens up all three programs he has been associated with to be investigated by the NCAA. Those would be Indiana, Cincinnati, and Texas Tech. Sorsby may have just arrived in Lubbock, but the unfortunate situation surrounding Sorsby has the NCAA panicking a bit.

While Brewster can look at the Red Raiders and see how they helped turn a former Stanford player in David Bailey into the No. 2 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft by the New York Jets, he also has to come to grips with how little football history Texas Tech really has. The Red Raiders have had only a handful of good-to-great years in their history. At a program like Florida, you can win national titles.

Regardless, Sumrall and his staff have long put in the work on a player other teams simply would not have. Sumrall is selling Florida to prospective recruits on the rich history this program has, and how they can play a part in bringing the Gators back to the promised land. Brewster may not be panacea for what is ailing the Gators, but he could serve as the ultimate tone-setter if he were to flip to them.

At this time, Florida can still like its chances of possibly flipping Brewster over the next few months.
