Count Jon Sumrall as someone that would like to see changes in the college football schedule.
The new Gators coach said he wouldn't mind seeing the schedule moved up a couple of weeks and the start of the college football playoffs earlier, so the season could still end around the first week of January.
Next season's College Football Playoff schedule is preposterous:

1st Round: December 18-19
CFP Quarterfinals: December 31-January 1
CFP Semifinals: January 14-15

The current college football schedule has many coaches, and probably some players, concerned. Over the next two seasons, it will extend to the final week of January and that's before the planned expansion of 16 or possibly 24 teams, which will likely come near the end of the decade.
Sumrall believes that a few quick fixes could make things easier for everyone.
"I would love for us to move the season up a week or two, like week zero," he said. "I think it's asinine that they – I get it, it's all for TV and all that money. But the college football championship game next year. I believe it's January 24th. That's absurd to me."
Jon Sumrall wants to see an early start to the CFB season
The two CFP finalists, Indiana and Miami, played 16 games this season — the same amount that last year's finalists, Ohio State and Notre Dame, played. It's unlikely the number of games will reduce and there's a good chance that it could increase to 17 or 18, basically making it a pro schedule.
Sumrall says that all the schedule requirements have made it difficult for student-athletes to hold up the 'student' part of the title.
"I do think, you know, there's still this thing, like, called school, right?" Sumrall quipped. "Like, these guys have to go to class, allegedly, and so the academic calendar and the football season is really not matched like it used to, which I think for us archaic football coaches and how we think is kind of a little bit messy and a little unclean."
It's good to see a young coach with a fresh perspective who isn't afraid to speak up for some changes. We hear a lot of rumblings about coaches not being excited about the extension of the schedule along with recruiting and transfer portal guidelines, but those coaches don't always speak up. Sumrall appears to be cut from a different cloth and will tell you how he feels.
