Jon Sumrall isn't playing around when it comes to recruiting and now the rest of the SEC knows it. Florida received a verbal commitment from four-star cornerback Aamaury Fountain, who was previously commitment to South Carolina. He is the third commitment that the Gators have received in the past four days.

The Gators had been working on Fountain for a while. Sumrall made the 6-foot-3 cornerback a major priority, getting him on campus last month. That trip resulted in the promise of an official visit at the end of May. Now Fountain will take that visit as a member of the 2027 recruiting class.

Fountain committed to the Gamecocks at the start of the year, but Sumrall was aggressively recruiting the elite defensive back from Warner Robins, Georgia, shortly after the inked dried on his contract to take over the program. The visit to Gainesville in March was a surprise for many, and it showed how close the Gators were to making a flip. Fountain committed to the official visit on that trip, but Sumrall was able to get him back on campus for the spring game and got the flip.

4-star CB Aamaury Fountain commits to Florida

Things got started for the Gators on Wednesday when five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller committed and continued Thursday when four-start quarterback Davin Davidson made his pledge to Florida. Now adding Fountain gives the Gators a presence in south Georgia, an area that is often a hotbed for prospects.

Fountain's relationship with Sumrall was the key in this recruitment. The new head coach seemed to take the lead and his reaction when Fountain gave him the news speaks to how close the player and coach have become.

"Coach Sumrall told me the next time I come, the entire staff will know your name, and he wasn't lying," Fountain told Tyler Harden of 247Sports.

This is the Gators' sixth commitment in the 2027 class and the second projected cornerback, joining four-star in-state prospect Amare Nugent. The recent haul has pushed Florida's class up the rankings and into the top 20.
