One of the subplots that was talked about, but wasn’t examined in depth, ahead of Florida and Ole Miss was the health of Ole Miss RB Kewan Lacy. He was considered a game-time decision for the Rebels due to a shoulder injury he suffered during last week’s win over LSU, but the signs seemed to point to him playing on Saturday.
Well, that looks like it might not be the case, as Lacy is now considered doubtful ahead of Saturday’s matchup, and it adds a massive wrinkle for this ranked match up.

Kewan Lacy’s latest injury designation adds a major wrinkle to Florida vs. Ole Miss
For as much hype as Jadan Baugh has gotten to open the 2026 season, that is essentially Lacy at his peak. We can split hairs over which running back is better than the other, but it would be a mistake to try to rank Lacy outside the top five among running backs.
He has had a solid start to 2026, racking up 191 yards rushing off 39 carries. He has four TDs this year, including one last week against LSU. It’s the 24 TDs he compiled last year, along with 1,567 yards rushing, that placed him among the elites in the country.
The real challenge for Ole Miss is that because they have relied so much on Lacy, there is no obvious guy who is ready to carry the load if Lacy can’t. On paper, it’s JT Lindsey who would step up for Ole Miss. He was a four-star in the class of 2025 who was with LSU last year but didn’t take a carry. He has 12 carries for 48 yards this year, the second most among Ole Miss running backs.
It’s going to be worth watching whether or not Ole Miss is forced to become one-dimensional if Lacy can’t go. Don’t get it twisted, the Rebels still have Trinidad Chamblis at QB, who can take over by himself if Florida isn’t careful.
But, it would still be a massive advantage for the Gators if Lacy winds up sitting out.
