Recruiting for the Florida Gators is starting to get a little bit of momentum as Billy Napier and crew were able to land the commitment of three-star IOL G'Nivre Carr over the weekend.
But there is still plenty of work to be done in Gainesville and one of the other prospects they had in town this past weekend would be another big body to add in the trenches.
Javarii Luckas visits with the Florida Gators
Javarii Luckas is a 6'5" OT from Belle Glade. He is a lower-rated three-star by 247 and On3, while ESPN and Rivals do not have him ranked. His industry ranking with On3 is 1,207th.
He has two other official visits lined up with West Virginia and USF.
So what do the Gators see in Luckas that perhaps the rest of the SEC hasn't jumped on board with?
Well, on film, he does have some violent hands in pass protection. His leg drive in run blocking is also solid, and if you don't get proper leverage against him, he will drive you back 20+ yards by the time the play ends.
On3 lists Luckas at 270 pounds, but 247 has him listed at 305 pounds. If that latter size is correct, there is merit in the Gators kicking the tires at Luckas, as he would have better size than a number of four-star prospects.
His three-star ranking for now is probably fair, as there are moments where it feels like he could better assert his will on much smaller opponents.
Luckas was on campus this past weekend for his official visit. Based on what he told all the insiders, Florida continues to be the school to beat.
He is going to be an interesting case study because, as of now, he would seem like a near-lock to the Gators as long as Billy Napier and crew actually want him. The plotline to follow is if his profile goes up during his senior year of high school, if anyone else in the SEC is going to try and come knocking.
Only time will tell as Florida looks to keep adding depth in the trenches.
