After getting run-ruled out of the NCAA Tournament, the main question for Florida ahead of Selection Sunday was whether or not the Gators would hang on to a top-eight seed for the NCAA Tournament, allowing Florida to host Super Regionals. Ultimately, Florida was given the No. 6 overall seed, which would keep them in Gainesville while trying to secure a berth to the WCWS.
But as the bracket continued to get revealed, it’s who might be coming to town for a potential Super Regional that has to put Florida on high alert.
Florida set to host Regionals this Friday
Before any hypothetical Super Regional, the Gators have to navigate the Regional round. Florida is set to host Florida A&M, Texas State, and Georgia Tech. On paper, this seems like a group Florida should navigate, but Texas State has also shown the ability to be a thorn in the side of teams this year. The Bobcats have wins over Texas Tech and Texas A&M, and only lost 3-2 to Texas. Overall, Texas State was 3-4 against Quad One teams this year and is 31st in RPI.
If Florida does navigate this upcoming weekend, what's looming for Super Regionals is not a roadblock that can be overlooked.
Because with the No. 11 overall seed, Texas Tech is the squad slated to come to town if they can navigate their group, which will feature Ole Miss.Â
Last year, the Red Raiders made it all the way to game three of the championship series, and this year that recipe is still in place despite their No. 11 seed. Texas Tech is led by superstar pitcher NiJaree Canady, who can 100% lead the Red Raiders to OKC by herself. Her ERA has ticked up slightly this year, but is still sitting at 1.24. Her batting average against has dropped to .143.
Texas Tech is 51-6 on the year, and the key to beating them is that one has to hope to draw a couple of walks on Canady and then hope the Red Raider defense commits an error (56th on the year in fielding percentage).
First things first, Florida needs to navigate this weekend. But the way this bracket is laid out, a trip to OKC is far from a lock in 2026.
