Gators Football: Five Running Back Battles That Will Define Florida’s Season

A difficult SEC schedule paired with some intriguing non-conference contests means the Gators will face plenty of talented tailbacks in 2025

Heading into the 2025 season, one of the very real concerns for Florida is their depth at defensive tackle. Caleb Banks is back and expected to be a key cog in the defensive line, but beyond him there is zero proven production to help stop the run.

It's with that in mind that these are the five most notable running backs the Gators are going to face in 2025.

Caden Durham, LSU

Durham looks like the next great running back to come through the SEC. The Oklahoma City native accumulated 753 rushing yards (5.4 ypc), 28 catches for 260 yards and eight total touchdowns as a true freshman.

He worked in tandem with Josh Williams, who graduated to the professional ranks, and will face minimal competition for carries in Baton Rouge as a sophomore.

Kaleb Jackson is the primary threat to Durham, but Jackson has totaled merely 75 carries in two collegiate seasons and averaged just 3.4 yards per carry in 2024. Behind Jackson, LSU has a pair of impressive 2025 recruits, and they'd likely eat into Jackson's workload instead of Durham's.

Durham is shaping up to take a bell cow role, and it wouldn't be surprising to see the former four-star recruit establish himself as one of the best tailbacks in the conference.
