Florida made light work of Long Island University and sent the Sharks back home with a nice paycheck but also a 55-0 beatdown. At no point in this game was the end result ever in doubt and there were plenty of positives to take away from The Swamp.
But even Billy Napier admitted after the game that "I'm going to hammer home about 15 plays that weren't good enough."
It's with that in mind that these lingering questions from the offseason weren't exactly cleared up in the win.
Just how healthy is DJ Lagway?
Lagway's stat line was fine, going 15/18 for 120 yards with three touchdowns. But whether it was the game plan or something else, we never really saw Lagway let it fly.
Consider last year, when he started against FCS foe Samford, Lagway had an Average Depth of Target (ADOT) of 12.7 yards per attempt. Last night it was 6.8 yards per attempt.
He only had one outing last year (Mississippi State) with a lower ADOT.
He did complete both attempts of over 20 yards, though his longest pass of the night, 41 yards, required a "catch of the year" from Vernell Brown III.
He also took two sacks and never really showed off his scrambling ability.
It's worth keeping an eye on as competition is set to ramp up.
Can Eugene Wilson actually run routes?
One concern we raised all offseason was whether or not Eugene Wilson could actually run routes or if he was still going to be relegated to being a gadget player.
Again, there is a chance Billy Napier is trying to save some stuff until the LSU game and was content to run his base offense.
But for the third year in a row, Wilson was stuck being a catch-and-run player, doing 87 orbit motions a game. He had the wild stat line of five catches for negative four yards and one touchdown.
Now on his touchdown snag, he started in the slot was able to run a corner route to the back corner, so it was a glimpse of what is possible.
But his four other catches were from behind the line of scrimmage. He is now up to 85 career catches as a Gator, 51 of which have come from behind the line of scrimmage (60%).
Is Bryce Lovett the answer at right tackle?
Florida was able to manhandle LIU in the trenches and could have called HB Dive the entire game if it wanted to.
But for a unit that is supposed to be one of the units in the country in 2025, they left some question marks in pass protection. Notably was the play of Bryce Lovett, the new face along the offensive line, who otherwise returned all other starters from last year.
Lovett gave up four hurries on the night and earned a PFF grade of 38.8. He ended last year with a solid outing in the Gasparilla Bowl, but that came on the heels of a subpar outing against FSU.
And if you are struggling to stop LIU from getting into the backfield, what is going to happen against LSU and Texas?
