The headlines for Florida Football coming out of Saturday's Spring Game have mostly centered around Dallas Wilson, and rightfully so. The freshman wide receiver had ten catches for 195 yards to steal the show in The Swamp.
But there were some other statlines that stood out, both good and bad, from Saturday and here are five performances that have also caught our eye.
Florida Football: Drake Stubbs was busy
We highlighted after the game on Saturday the day freshman linebacker Ty Jackson had with 11 total tackles and a sack. However, we would be remiss if we didn't also highlight the day that freshman safety Drake Stubbs had as well.
Stubbs had eight total tackles, five of which were solo tackles. He also had an interception and a hit on the QB.
His performance made it clear why Gregory Smith III opted for the portal last week, as Stubbs would have had the inside track.
Cormani McClain
DBs can be tough to evaluate in a spring game as they are normally left on an island, but the former five-star was able to keep things quiet on his side of the field.
He had two tackles, which is usually a good thing for a DB, and he was credited with a pass breakup.
J. Michael Sturdivant
Matched up with McClain at times was J. Michael Sturdivant, the transfer WR from UCLA. We had said that coming into the game, the knock on Sturdivant was that he could flash some highlights that made him look like an All-American, but his overall metrics while at UCLA were extremely poor.
Sure enough, Saturday felt like an extension of that, as the one catch he had was an acrobatic grab over McClain for 29 yards.
The problem is that was his only catch on seven targets.
Now, only time will tell whether that was a by-product of Sturdivant, McClain playing lockdown defense, or Aidan Warner being Aidan Warner.
Aidan Mizell
Another player who Gator fans are hoping will have a big 2025 campaign, Mizell did have a 24-yard touchdown on Saturday.
Like Sturdivant, that was Mizell's only catch on the day and was his only target on the day.
And also like Sturdivant, we know Mizell has the ability to flash and make big plays, but for whatever reason, he was losing snaps to Marcus Burke to close out the 2024 season.
Tank Hawkins
Somewhat lost in the day Wilson had was the four-catch day Tank Hawkins had for 48 yards and one touchdown.
Also notable was that Hawkins was used on kickoff returns, and he had three returns for 64 yards, including a 30-yard return.
Hawkins is perhaps the fastest player on the roster for the Gators, and while most of the wide receiver projections for 2025 would have him as a rotational guy, he still feels like a player who hasn't been fully unleashed.
