Gator fans aren't fazed as “Over Florida” season ramps up

As recruiting season starts to heat up, one of the time-honored traditions this time of year is the commitment graphics that come out claiming various prospects chose their school “Over Florida.” Sometimes these claims do have some merit to them, while other times, Gator fans are left wondering how they wound up on the graphic in the first place.

On Monday, a commitment happened with an SEC rival that was somewhat in the middle of those two options, but still doesn’t leave Florida fans too concerned about the direction of the 2027 class.

Florida “loses out” on Ian Walker

Offensive lineman Ian Walker was committed to Kentucky. Listed at 6’5” and 305 pounds, all three major services have Walker listed as a three-star.

Now, if one is wondering why we here at Hail Florida Hail are noting a lineman that Kentucky got, it’s because on the Hayes Fawcett commitment graphic, it notes that Walker picked Kentucky “Over Florida and Ohio State.”

The comments under the post from Kentucky fans were roughly along the lines of “Will Stein shoves Jon Sumrall into a locker.”

To that, we say, Walker wasn’t even on our radar, and we never did a profile on him.

Walker did take an unofficial visit to Florida in March and had lined up an official visit for this June, but that’s about as far as Florida’s interest seemed to be with Walker. Given that the Gators already have three top 150 linemen committed and have their eyes on even more, this is more of a case where Florida chose others rather than Walker chose Kentucky.

None of this is to slight Walker himself, and with his size, he absolutely can still become a productive SEC lineman. It’s more so a commentary on the annual gambit that is this “Over Florida” phenomenon. We have noted in the past the massive inconsistencies in these graphics and how they seldom tell anything even close to what actually happened.

Walker legit took triple the visits to Rutgers as he did to Kentucky, but his graphic didn't state "Over Rutgers."

That’s the nature of content creation these days, just keep in mind if it comes across your feed, not to fret, as the Gators are doing just fine with their class of 2027.
