Heading into conference championship weekend, it was guaranteed that Florida Football was going to have a former member of the team win the Super Bowl as the Gators had representation on all four teams still standing.
With Philadelphia and Kansas City off to the Super Bowl, the Gators have four players left whose season is still alive.
Philadelphia
The Gator headliner for the Eagles is C.J. Gardner-Johnson and he had five tackles in their win over Washington. Through three their three playoff games he has had 11 tackles but no interceptions. Gardner-Johnson had six interceptions in the regular season and was third in the NFL>
Gardner-Johnson played for Florida from 2016 through 2018 and played in 37 games during that stretch. He tallied nine interceptions, three returned for touchdowns, and 161 tackles, including 15.5 for loss and four sacks. During his junior year with Florida he had 71 tackles, four interceptions, and Defensive MVP honors in the Peach Bowl. As a freshman, he earned Outback Bowl MVP with two interceptions.
Fred Johnson is also on the roster for Philadelphia. He was the starting tackle for the Eagles at the start of the season but got hurt. He returned in week 18 but has otherwise been relegated to the sidelines during the playoffs.
Kansas City
The Chiefs also have two former Gators on their roster. Jawaan Taylor is the more notable of the two and has been the starting right tackle for Kansas City. He hasn't allowed a sack in his last six games.
Like Gardner-Johnson, he played for Florida from 2016-2018 and declared for the NFL Draft after his junior year. Taylor started virtually every game during that time span. He was a Freshman All-American in 2016 and in 2018 he was Second Team All-SEC.
Also on the Chiefs is DJ Humphries. He has been relegated to mostly backup duty this season.
