Former Gator Brandon Sproat traded as Mets paid a high price for Freddy Peralta

Right-handed pitcher Brandon Sproat has been traded for the first time in his big league career. He won't be heading midwest alone, though, as teammate Jett Williams is headed the same direction.

Florida Gator great, Brandon Sproat is headed to the Great Lakes of Wisconsin. In a late-night blockbuster trade, the New York Mets acquired right-handed pitching ace Freddy Peralta and right-handed pitcher Tobias Myers from the Milwaukee Brewers. In exchange for Peralta and Myers the Mets sent the former Gator, Sproat, along with top hitting prospect and infielder, Jett Williams to Milwaukee.

Sproat was drafted by the Mets in the second round (pick. No. 56 overall) of the 2023 MLB draft. After a couple up and down seasons for Sproat, the 25-year old from Pensacola dazzled and threw the best season he’s had in Triple-A and went on to make his Major League debut and spent time with the big league club just ahead of his 25th birthday in September.

In 2025 with Triple-A Syracuse, Sproat was 8-6 with a 4.24 ERA. Over the course of 121 innings he gave up just 57 earned runs on 97 hits and struck out an impressive 113 batters. Opposing batters hit just .218 against him and he accumulated for a 1.24 WHIP. When you look back at June and July, those were some of the best months Sproat had this season. He threw five shutouts (three in a row) and in July struck out eight or more in three of his outings as well.

The Mets liked what they saw and though many didn’t think Sproat would quite crack the big league roster last year, he defied the opinions of some and his numbers earned him his MLB debut, which came on September 7, 2025 against the Cincinnati Reds. Though the Mets couldn’t get the job done against the Reds, Sproat struck out his first seven big league batters in that appearance.

Over the course of the four September starts Sproat got the call for, he was 0-2 with two no decisions and a 4.79 ERA. Over the course of 20 2/3 innings he gave up 11 runs on 18 hits, seven walks, and struck out 17.

As one of the top prospects in the Mets organization, Sproat’s name was tossed around quite a bit in trade talks as many teams were willing to part ways with big name players if it meant they were in turn getting some young talent with a lot of years left ahead of them like Sproat and Williams.

Both prospects will now take their talents to Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
