Gator Boys (in the big leagues) stay hot! It’s the theme that Gators in the big leagues seem to be on the same wavelength about, and now former Gator right-handed pitcher has joined the party.

Singer started his 22nd game of the season on Friday against the Atlanta Braves and threw a gem. He tossed six shutout innings, giving up just four hits, one walk, and struck out 10 to open the month of August as the Reds went on to defeat the Braves 3-2 in a close Friday win.

Prior to Friday, Singer’s season-high for strikeouts was nine, making his 10-strikeout performance on Friday a season best. This was also his first outing since March 31, in which he has not given up a run.

Over the course of the season, the 28-year old from Leesburg, FL. is 9-8, with a 4.36 ERA, 111 strikeouts, and a 1.31 WHIP.

Speaker spoke with the media after the game on Friday and stated that he was pleased with his outing and how things felt to start the month.

“I think both sliders were pretty good, had the sweeper going as well, it was playing well off the sinker too,” said Singer, who said all of his pitches felt good. He was pleased with being able to go out there on Friday, be himself, and go deep in the game and give the Reds a chance in the game.

Singer stated that prior to Friday he was trying to force things too hard, going out there and “trying to do too much,” he said. He said Friday he tried to go out, be himself, and it paid off. He focused on his command, tried to limit his walks, and that’s exactly what he did, walking just one.

Singer has a little bit of a unique situation. He had been with the Kansas City Royals since 2018 when they drafted him. He was traded to the Cincinnati Reds during the 2024-25 offseason in a trade that sent his former Gator teammate, Jonathan India to the Kansas City Royals, where India is now teammates with another former Gator, Jac Caglianone.
