Since transferring out from Florida, Emory Jones has had quite the football odyssey. The former Gator QB bounced around a couple more college programs before taking part in NFL training camp this past offseason.
As of last month, the football plans for Jones were to have him play in the UFL spring league in 2025, but he is back on an NFL practice squad, and his choice of jersey number is raising some eyebrows.
Florida Football: Double trouble
Jones transferred out from Florida after the 2021 season when Dan Mullen got fired and Billy Napier was brought in and it was obvious Anthony Richardson was the starter for the 2022 campaign.
He left for Arizona State, where he started seven games and went 1-6 in 2022 before transferring again to Cincinnati for the 2023 season. He started all 12 games for the Bearcats, going 3-9, but Jones had a respectable stat line of 61% completion, 18 TDs to 10 INTs, 2,840 yards passing with 564 yards rushing.
He went undrafted but got a camp invite with Baltimore ahead of this season. He was cut at the end of August.
Back in November, he inked a deal with the DC Defenders of the UFL, but earlier this week, he inked a deal to join the practice squad for the Atlanta Falcons.
The eyebrows getting raised aren't from him signing with the Falcons but it is from his choice of number.
Jones will be wearing #11 in Atlanta.
There is just one slight problem with that choice. Atlanta had another famous player who is bound to be a Hall of Famer with the last name Jones, who wore #11 for ten seasons.
Does Julio Jones ring a bell?
The odds of Emory Jones actually making it on the field in a real game in Atlanta are low, but if he ever does, his choice of jersey number will be a bit confusing for Atlanta fans.
