Florida’s class of 2024 was headlined by DJ Lagway and LJ McCray. At one point, the class was ranked in the top five, and it seemed like Billy Napier was starting to acquire the high-end, elite talent that would be needed to survive in the SEC.

As we all know, he did not.

One of the players who flipped away from Florida was Amaris Williams, the top 100 overall EDGE out of North Carolina. Williams committed to Florida in June of 2023, but he never made it to campus and flipped to Auburn on signing day.

Williams is now at Georgia, and this week, it was announced he would miss the 2026 season after a brutal blow.

Amaris Williams to miss the 2026 season

Graham Coffey of DawgsCentral was the first to report that Williams has suffered an ACL injury and will miss the 2026 season. The injury happened this week during one of Georgia’s spring practices.

Coming out of high school, there was a lot of hope for Williams. Back in May of 2023, when Florida was in his top five, and we first profiled Williams, we said:

“He has good size at 6’3”-260 and is able to use his frame to slide through the offensive line and get to the backfield. Amaris has an explosive first step, and a lot of offensive linemen can’t keep up with him.

He uses his speed and athleticism offensively too, possessing the ability to explode through gaps as a ball carrier, as well as lay devastating blocks as a tight end.”

Even after he committed to Florida, his commitment felt far from a lock. His flip on signing day to Auburn was pretty much a guarantee that didn’t even cause a ripple.

During his time at Auburn for 2024 and 2025, Williams saw a decent amount of snaps and had some production, but he was far from a top-100 prospect. In 2025, he took 210 snaps and had 14 total tackles with two sacks.

With Aubrun changing coaches themselves, Williams transferred to Georgia in the offseason.
