The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party Atlanta Edition is here, and the Gators are in a weird spot ahead of this afternoon. Vegas has Florida as a massive underdog, but there are reasons to believe the Gators have enough firepower to pull off the upset.

The problem is that a late surprise on the injury report could blow the entire pathway to victory up, and the margins for Florida to pull off this upset are going to be thin this afternoon in Atlanta.

On Friday morning, we talked about the fact that Florida was set to have all three of their main wide receivers back. Dallas Wilson and Eric Singleton Jr. were good to go, and all the reporting that was floating around indicated that Vernell Brown III would return.

Then on Friday night is came out that Brown had been downgraded to questionable.

This leaves a massive question mark in Florida’s game plan and could leave Florida with the same conundrum that doomed them against Missouri and South Carolina. As we have been stating throughout, both of those teams loaded up the box and dared Aaron Philo to beat them deep. When he couldn’t, Jadan Baugh had nowhere to run.

So while offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner has had a hint of success against Georgia in the past while he was at Georgia Tech, it just feels like Georgia is going to ask the same questions Florida had no answer to earlier in the month.

The other side of it, which hasn’t been talked about as much, is what approach Florida is going to take on defense. Seemingly, the Gators found something that worked against Texas when they blitzed over 60% of the time. It worked in part because Arch Manning was a deer in the headlights when facing any kind of pressure. Georgia QB Gunner Stockton, however, has 11 TDs and just one INT this year when facing a blitz and has a near identical completion percentage compared to when he doesn’t face a blitz.

Florida has showcased over the past two years under The Man in the Black Polo that they are capable of knocking on the doorstep of an upset. Finishing the job has been the problem and if VB3 doesn’t go, it’s hard to imagine the Gators will have enough firepower to do just that.

Final Prediction:

  • Georgia 31
  • Florida 24
