On Friday we here at Hail Florida Hail noted how Florida was making moves on their hunt toward securing a “commitment with eye-catching size.” Just hours later, three-star DL Cain Van Norden from Bishop McNamara High School in District Heights, MD officially gave his commitment to the Gators.
Nicknamed “Big Sandwich,” Van Norden stands at 6’7”, 265lbs. He is known for his big, athletic frame and high upside on the field. His film backs that nickname up. With his size and strength, he’s a weapon on the front line, not letting players past him, stopping everyone who tries to come his way.

His stats from 2025-2026 are limited, however it’s noted he did record six tackles (four solo) in his junior year campaign. And that’s with being new to football as well. Prior to playing football, his primary sport was basketball.
According to Swamp247, Van Norden chose the Gators for their commitment to development and excellence.
“I feel like I can get a lot of development there since I’m new to football,” he told Swamp247. “I feel like they’re doing a good job of making me a priority, and they have a great academic support and I made great relationships with coaches.” For a player who’s new to the sport and already excelling at the level he is as fast as he is, it is almost a guarantee that Jon Sumrall can take a coachable like Van Norden and turn him into a big time weapon on the field.
Van Norden chose the Gators over SEC rivals Georgia and Ole Miss, along with his hometown Maryland.
“I want to bring Florida back to National Championships” said the DL.
When we profiled Van Norden prior to his commitment, we said:
"Van Norden is intriguing because his size is impossible to miss, and if a team were to put 40+ pounds on him, he could quickly morph into a monster. As it stands right now, his star ranking is fair enoughbased on his film. His frame just engulfs anyone who comes near him, and it makes him a valuable asset in the run game. He is still lacking the explosiveness and power needed to be a four-star, but he has a ceiling that is far higher than most three-stars because of his sheer size."
With his commitment, Sumrall’s 2027 class is now at 15 commits and is a top-10 ranked class in the country.
