On Tuesday, the Florida Gators are going to be featured on Netflix along with a host of other SEC programs for a new series titled "SEC Football: Any Given Saturday." The series was filmed during the 2024 season as a "behind-the-scenes" look at several SEC programs, and there are definitely times when being a fly on the wall would have been entertaining during Florida's 2024 season.
But given how most Netflix sports documentaries go, we will probably get some tidbits we have yet to see, but the odds of an uncensored tale are going to be low.
Florida Gators featured on SEC Football: Any Given Saturday
One of the very real problems that the Netflix series Swamp Kings had was that it was the Micky Mouse version of what really went down behind the scenes. The series glossed over the scores of arrests Florida had during that era and was very selective on the players who were featured.
Most Netflix sports series tend to adopt this model, where they go "behind the scenes" but are very deliberate on what makes it to the final edit.
We know from the trailer that DJ Lagway and Graham Mertz are going to get featured, but what would be great to see is what exactly the mood of the team was following the Texas A&M loss when it seemed like, at the time, that Billy Napier was a dead man walking.
If we had to guess, what is going to play out is footage from some of those losses, but some intentionally curated interviews from the players with cliches like "Yeah, everyone is really frustrated right now. We just have to find a way to right the ship."
From there, Netflix is likely to focus on Florida's winning streak to close out the season and some of the locker room celebrations following the LSU and Ole Miss wins.
We will all still watch it because it's football, and it means we are one step closer to the season, just don't expect an uncensored version of Florida's 2024 season.
