Florida fans certainly don't view Florida's back-to-back seasons of having the consensually agreed-upon hardest schedule in college football, which most certainly may view as a thorn in Billy Napier's side.
In reality, that schedule is presenting a golden opportunity for Napier to potentially save himself, at least for a few more weeks, as the Gators head to Death Valley to take on third-ranked LSU.
Could a win cancel out last week's loss?
There's no doubt that Florida's loss to South Florida set new lows for the program. Napier has certainly exposed the fanbase to multiple embarrassing losses, most notably with last season's blowouts to Miami, Texas A&M, and Texas.
But with this schedule, Napier receives a hidden treasure later tonight in Baton Rouge: a chance.
For most fans, a home loss to South Florida is near unforgivable. The Bulls, who will enter their own challenge later today against Miami, are ranked nowhere near the Gators in terms of funding, NIL spending, or prestige.
That's why the outrage from the fanbase was so loud following Saturday's loss, and it explains why multiple longtime Napier defenders jumped ship and called for his firing.
But with an opportunity to dethrone one of the best teams in the nation with undefeated LSU, especially in their own house, Napier has a chance to earn back a lot of the trust he lost last weekend.
In fact, a win against the Tigers may completely make up for the loss to South Florida for some fans, which would effectively cancel out the two results.
The magnitude of a win tonight is difficult to predict, given how eventful the last week has been for the Florida fanbase, but it would certainly provide a much-needed boost to a coach with potentially the hottest seat in the nation.
But that's much easier said than done. Death Valley, one of the hardest places to win in college football, will present challenges unlike the Gators have ever seen. And that's failing to credit how skilled the Tigers are, with Brian Kelly's squad holding one of the most talented rosters in the nation.
Florida will certainly have its hands full later tonight, but it may all be worth it if it can leave Baton Rouge with a bounce-back win on its record .
