Florida’s first half vs Tennessee looked like a scrimmage neither side needed to play

There is no defending this effort

If one were hoping for a late-season spark from the Florida Gators to close out the 2025 campaign with a sense of pride, one was wasting their time. We here at Hail Florida Hail, perhaps against our better judgment, thought Florida might be able to carry over some of the Swamp voodoo the Gators had against Texas to keep a 20-year home streak against Tennessee going.

There are still 30 minutes to play as of this writing. Still, the first 30 minutes in Gainesville between Florida and Tennessee were a complete waste of everyone's time as Florida looks like it would rather end the season than finish with any sense of good vibes.

Florida is getting blown out by Tennessee

Two weeks ago, Kentucky pulled off the largest win in series history since 1950.

If this night goes much worse, Tennessee might break its all-time record from the series from 1990 when it won 45-3.

Tennessee started with the ball and marched right down for a touchdown. Florida looked like it was going to respond with a wheel route to Jadan Baugh to set up a potential shootout.

Except a holding call erased the play, and everything continued to spiral from there. DJ Lagway's big run right before halftime is about the only sign of life Florida has shown. Only for Trey Smack to miss a 38-yard field goal to keep Florida off the scoreboard and put the Gators on shutout streak watch.

In case one needs a reminder, Florida was only a 4.5-point underdog in this game. And yet, Florida looks like an FCS team in a buy game, just accepting its mercy killing.

The fact that Urban Meyer is at this game, being honored for his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, only adds to the insult. Meyer was undefeated against Tennessee during his time in Gainesville.

If one looked for something else to do during the second half, we wouldn't blame them.

Just know it will all be over soon.

It will all be over soon.
