The Florida Gators stepped on the gas on defense and shut out LIU en route to a 55-0 win. The Sharks could have played for another 60 minutes and would have still had a goose egg on the board.
26 players got at least ten snaps for the Gators on Saturday night and these are our report card grades for the night
Defensive Grades For The Florida Gators
A
- Kamran James
- George Gumbs Jr.
- Jaden Robinson
- Brendan Bett
- Myles Johnson
James didn't get in on the QB, but he was a tackling machine along the defensive line. Gumbs, meanwhile, did get constant pressure and had 1.5 tackles for a loss on just 17 snaps. Bett also made his presence felt along the interior.
Robinson and Johnson were both flying around at linebacker, and Johnson had three tackles on just 13 snaps.
B
- Myles Graham
- Bryce Thornton
- Dijon Johnson
- Sharif Denson
- Devin Moore
- J'Vari Flowers
- Aaron Gates
- Kofi Asare
- Cormani McClain
- Brien Taylor Jr.
- Tyreak Sapp
- Jayden Woods
- Jeramiah McCloud
- Micheal Caraway Jr.
- Michai Boireau
It's so hard to evaluate Florida's defensive backs because they had so little to do throughout the game, so we're giving a mostly blanket B to the DBs.
Guys like Sapp and Woods were solid enough, but given the hype they got all offseason, it wasn't enough to earn an A.
C
- Jordan Castell
- Lagonza Hayward
- Joseph Mbatchou
- Teddy Foster
- Jamari Lyons
Jordan Castell continues to be a question mark heading into 2025. Like the rest of the secondary, he didn't have much to do in pass protection. But the knock on Castell is that he is also too passive in run support and he finished with zero tackles on 28 snaps.
The same goes for Hayward, with just one tackle on 19 snaps.
Mbatchou and Lyons both had zero tackles along the interior of the defensive line, while Foster was beaten on a 28-yard completion.
D
- Aaron Chiles
The lowest grade of the day goes to Chiles because on a night when it seemed like everyone else was flying around, Chiles somehow wound up being invisible.
He took 21 snaps and yet had zero tackles and zero pressures on the QB.
