On a night where the Gators got humiliated in the Swamp, the Lane Kiffin speculation continues. And after tonight’s loss to Tennessee, Gator fans can only hope the recent volleyball game cancellation isn’t just a coincidence of a big announcement.
Florida Gators volleyball was scheduled to take on the University of North Florida in the O’Connell center in a non-traditional exhibition match after the SEC tournament. However, that match is no longer happening. The University of Florida announced on Wednesday that the match between the Gators and Ospreys has been cancelled as both schools mutually agreed not to play the match.

Florida’s announcement came just two days before Ole Miss announced on Friday, November 21 that an announcement regarding Lane Kiffin’s future at Ole Miss will be announced in just over a week’s time. The Rebels take on Mississippi State on Friday in the “Egg Bowl” matchup.
All eyes will turn back to Ole Miss on Saturday as Kiffin’s decision is expected to take place on Saturday, November 29, the same day as the UF vs UNF Volleyball cancellation. Many think that putting the two announcements together means that some much-needed good news could be coming for the Gators. UF volleyball has never cancelled a regular-season matchup, so for them to do so, it has to be important.
Obviously, the common theory is that Florida is playing FSU in football next Saturday, so it would make sense to move the game. But it's not like Florida didn't know that when the game was scheduled or that this game magically snuck up on Florida.
It was reported that on Thursday, Florida met with Kiffin’s representatives and that they did submit a coaching offer to Kiffin. Whether or not the rumor that the volleyball cancellation has anything to do with Lane Kiffin’s announcement of his future will reveal itself in due time. Either good news is coming for the Gators, or as others think, this is just a coincidental cancellation and there is no connection and no validity to the Kiffin at UF to announce he’s the new head coach next week rumors flying around.
But as usual, it will be a busy week with a lot of rumors being talked about. But what we can confirm, a decision will be made by Kiffin next Saturday and the Gators will know if he’s their next guy, or not.
