For a while, Will Griffin was the only commit the Florida Gators had for their class of 2026. The QB out of Tampa committed to Florida back in 2024, but as recent as this spring, he was the lone building block Billy Napier had to work with.

And even though Griffin has seen his star ranking fluctuate, he just passed Tim Tebow on the all-time passing yards list in Florida.

Will Griffin passes Tim Tebow

Nick Wilson of the USA Today Network sent out a video on social media of Griffin connecting on a pass during Tampa Jesuit's regular-season opener against Bishop Verot. The yardage on the completion pushed Griffin into 12th on the all-time passing yards leader board in the state of Florida.

The man who was formerly 12th?

None other than Tim Tebow.

Now, if you want to feel old, Griffin wasn't even born by the time Tebow graduated high school himself, but there are traits in Griffin's game that do mimic that of the Gator legend.

Griffin is now north of 10,000 passing yards for his prep career, but part of what makes him stand out is also part of why his star ranking has dropped.

Currently, he is a lower-rated four-star with both Rivals and 247 ranking him around 20th among QBs.

Griffin is a willing runner and a willing bulldozer if needed. It's not the core tenet of his game like it is with Tebow, but he is not afraid to run someone over if needed. The problem is that when it comes to star rankings, showcase camps put more emphasis on throwing against air versus having poise with a defender in your face.

In fact, when he first saw his ranking drop last summer, we said:

"He has traits on film that work wonders in a real game but don't necessarily translate into a 7-on-7 camp, which is the fuel for the wild swings in off-season ranking adjustments we see every year."

So while Griffin isn't going to come to Gainesville with the same level of hype as Tebow or even current QB DJ Lagway, just know the Gators have a very capable QB coming to campus, even if the star rankings don't show it.
