Florida recruits rave about The Swamp after Jon Sumrall’s electric debut

Not only was Saturday night a big night on the field for the Florida football program, but it was a huge weekend for Sumrall and the Gators’ recruitment staff off the field s well, as a huge group of prospects, commits, and recruits (16 from the class of 2027 alone) were in attendance for Florida’s home opener against FAU. And not only did the Gators get the win on the field, but recruits are raving on social media after being in the Swamp, with the general consensus calling Florida’s home opener “awesome!”

Florida targets walked away impressed with The Swamp

Ridge Jones, a four-star class of 2028 recruit out of DeSmet High School, was in attendance and shared photos on X. He shared photos of Alumni Hall, outside the suites with Sumrall, and the view of the Gators entrance onto the field, one of the most coveted entrances in college football, along with a photo on the field. He thanked Sumrall and called it an “Awesome night in the Swamp,” and a “great visit.” He received an offer from Florida in January.

Jaxon Flowers, a four-star All-American and 2028 recruit from The Bolles School in Jacksonville posted this on X: “The new era starts NOW. Coach Jon Sumrall first one in the swamp was electric!!!”. That was the caption that described photos in the pregame recruiting meal and  on the field with a fellow recruit.

Isaiah Reeves, a three-star prospect out of Mountain View High School’s class of 2028 in Lawrenceville, GA also called his September 6 visit a “Great visit to The Swamp!” along with a photo in a recruiting hall, a panoramic video of the stadium, and of course, and a video of what is now called one of, if not the greatest tradition in sports in Florida’s playing of Tom Petty’s “Won’t Back Down” to start the fourth quarter.

Nicholas Carroll, a four-star recruit out of Toombs County High School, was another player who showed video of “Won’t Back Down” and shared a photo on the field, saying he had a “Great visit to Florida last night” and thanked the coaching staff, including Sumrall, for having him.

Elias Pearl, a 2027 prospect out of Port Charlotte High School who committed to Florida in May, was another one in attendance. He posted, “Had a great time at the Swamp last night, Go Gators (house emoji and Gator emjoi).” Though he has already committed, this was still a big visit for the four-star Gator commit as it was another opportunity for the Gators to show him he matters and make a strong first game-day impression. They clearly did just that.

Another four-star commit, Davin Davidson out of Cardinal Mooney High School in Sarasota, was in attendance. His tweet summed up all of them: “Had a great time being back in the swamp!! There is no place like home,” he stated with a video attached of “Won’t Back Down.”

These were just several of the many comments made to members of the media by players who were in attendance at Florida’s home opener. One thing was summed up in all of these posts, the atmosphere is special, and the Gators take care of their prospects, even with a game to focus on.

Five-Star recruit Maxwell Hiller was among those in attendance on Saturday as well. He shared comments with Tyler Hrden of 247Sports about his visit, along with having his younger brother, a Gator basketball recruit with him as well.

It was a huge recruiting weekend in the Swamp and the Gators knocked it out of the park with current commits and prospects on the fence, garnering more attention from some who have yet to give their commitment.
