Florida is off to a 1-0 start after their 77-67 win over Miami on Monday. It was a gritty, physical game that lacked flow, so it was tough for the Gators to get into a rhythm offensively. Even with that, there were some solid performances, while others still left some to be desired.
Florida takes on Jacksonville tomorrow, so let’s take a look back on Monday and hand out some report card grades from Florida’s win over Miami.
Florida report card grades from their win over Miami
Thomas Haugh: A−
Florida’s strongest overall performance: 19 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and zero turnovers in 38 minutes. Was also a pest on defense and helped keep Miami at bay. Not quite an A+ showing because of free-throw shooting, but nights like Monday will result in wins more often than not.
Boogie Fland: C+
Finished with 12 points and four assists, but was 2-for-9 shooting and 6-for-10 from the free-throw line. He did have four steals, but it felt like he was pressing all night on the offensive side and struggled to create.
Alex Condon: B+
Delivered an efficient 11 points, seven rebounds, and three assists in 26 minutes. It was a very Alex Condon-like performance.
Denzel Aberdeen: D+
Seven points, two assists, and zero rebounds in 30 minutes. Shooting 3-for-9 overall and 0-for-4 from three, with two turnovers, was not the return to Florida that Aberdeen was hoping for.
Rueben Chinyelu: B
14 rebounds and three assists. Was also a brick wall down low and had three blocks on the night. Didn’t provide much offensively, but again that was in part due to the choppy flow of the game.
Urban Klavzar: B
Nine points, two rebounds, and one assist in 19 minutes, giving Florida useful bench scoring. He was 3-for-7 shooting overall and just 1-for-2 from the free-throw line, so he could have benefited from one extra shot falling.
Isaiah Brown: A
2-for-2 from the field, 1-for-1 from three, and 2-for-2 at the line. Seven points and three rebounds in 14 minutes was a super efficient night coming off the bench
Domen Petrovic: A−
Six points and three rebounds in just 10 minutes, shooting 2-for-3 from three. Basically the only newcomer on this roster, but he still provided enough of a spark off the bench to justify more minutes down the road.
