Florida must score 21 on FSU to dodge a brutal place in history

In a season that will finally be over on Saturday, the Florida Gators have two things to play for against FSU:

  1. Pride in a rivalry game that resulted in a planted flag last year
  2. Avoiding a place among the worst offenses in Florida history

Given the talent Florida had on paper entering the year, it seems unfathomable. But unless Florida can score 21 points this Saturday, this offense will take its seat at the table as one of Florida's worst of all time.

Florida is averaging 19.9 points per game

As it stands right now, Florida has scored 219 points on the season. That averages out to 19.9 points per game. To finish with an average of at least 20 points per game, the Gators will need to score at least 21 points against FSU.

If Florida fails to do so, they will join the 2013 and the 1979 squads as the only two teams since 1974 to not average at least 20 points per game. The Gators need at least eight points to pass the 226 points the 2013 squad scored, while the winless 1979 squad scored a grand total of 106 points in 11 games.

2013 at least has the excuse of Jeff Driskel breaking his leg, while 1979 is just a year we try not to acknowledge. This 2025 squad entered the year with a five-star QB, two five-star wide receivers, a future NFL running back, and an experienced offensive line anchored by an All-American center.

And they are struggling to crack 20 points per game.

Yes, injuries have played a role, but this team isn't so devoid of talent that we should be having this discussion. In particular, Florida's efforts against Kentucky and Tennessee, which are two defenses no one considers to be good, have sunk the Gators into this territory.

It's just a reminder of what a stain the Billy Napier Era has been in Gainesville. At least Will Muschamp had the backdrop of being a solid defensive coach who just never could find an OC.

Offense is the "bread and butter" of Napier, and he repeatedly insisted this was his baby no one else could touch.

Just remember, if you dared to point out the offensive flaws of Napier, you were labeled a "bad fan."

Sometimes it turns out the "bad fans" were right all along.
