One of the few positive hallmarks of the Billy Napier Era is that he did have a knack for bringing in wide receivers who had an element of speed to them. His flaw was that he had zero clue how to actually use those receivers once they arrived on campus.
With Jon Sumrall in charge now, he too is going after wide receivers with speed, and if Buster Faulkner’s offense is what we think it is going to be, Sumrall might be on the verge of landing a wide receiver who fits perfectly into the offense.
Florida predicted to land Amare Patterson
Amare Patterson is a wide receiver out of South Carolina. Listed at 6’0” and 190 pounds, Patterson is a four-star prospect with 247 and ESPN and is just a three-star with Rivals.
On film, it’s hard to imagine Patterson as a three-star, as he has a burst of speed that looks like he activated a turbo mushroom boost in Mario Kart. His first step isn’t always full steam ahead, which can also create a false sense of hope for defenders, because once he puts his foot in the ground and decides to go, there doesn’t seem to be anyone in South Carolina who can catch him.
Patterson has the type of speed where he can either go 40 yards downfield or stay back and take a screen pass the same distance. His track and field times back up his speed, too, as this month he clocked a 10.50-second 100-meter dash.
Patterson finished with over 1,200 all-purpose yards in 2025.
He has official visits lined up with Georgia and LSU, as well as Florida, but Corey Bender of Gators Online logged an RPM prediction that Patterson is going to land with the Gators at some point.
Obviously, there is a long way to go with his recruitment, especially if he winds up going on those official visits, but landing a guy like Patterson would continue the pipeline of speed to Gainesville.
