Junior interior offensive lineman Sean Tatum made his verbal commitment on Friday. The class of 2027 IOL out of John Carroll High School officially gave his pledge to the University of Miami. When he graduates next spring, the No. 9 ranked IOL will trade his blue and yellow for green and orange becoming a Hurricane.
The 6’4”, 325lb lineman visited Miami on March 28 and after that visit, it became evident that Miami was leading the way to land Tatum, who ultimately chose the Hurricanes on Friday over Auburn, Florida, and Tennessee, who were all finalists to land him as well.

He visited Gainesville for junior day back in January and was impressed when he did so, noting the difference in the atmosphere and culture under Jon Sumrall’s regime, however a visit to Miami last month made it clear that’s where he wanted to be.
Florida misses out on 4-star OL target Sean Tatum
It was no surprise that Tatum chose Miami over Florida after it was announced that the nation’s No. 1 IOL Maxwell Hiller gave his pledge to Florida earlier this week. While Tatum would have been a phenomenal addition to the Gators’ depth chart, Hiller was the likely player to win the opening game spot on the roster.
“Sean’s been here (at John Carroll) all four years of high school,” said John Carroll Athletic Director, Mickey Groody. “With all the success he’s been given, he is a man of God and puts his family first. I’m so proud of the man he is and the man he’s about to become when he leaves John Carroll next year,” said Groody.
Tatum thanked his parents: his mom and his dad upon making his commitment. “I am super blessed to be in this situation. Everyone here today helped me to become the man I am,” said Tatum. He thanked his teachers, staff, coaches, and everyone in attendance at his commitment ceremony on Friday.
The next several words displayed his commitment. “For the next three or four years, I will be going to the University of Miami,” he said as he unveiled his Hurricanes T-shirt and pulled the Miami hat from his lap.
Tatum does still have official visits scheduled for this summer, with the University of Florida included. But for now, the Gators lose out on the sunshine state’s No. 15 overall recruit.
