One of the early wins of the Billy Napier Era was the trio of talented wide receivers he brought in as part of the class of 2023. Eugene Wilson, Aidan Mizell, and Andy Jean had the makeup of a group that was supposed to thrive in Gainesville and give the Gators explosive playmakers.
But after Jean transferred last season and Mizell announced his intentions to transfer today, only one member from that group still remains at Florida.
Aidan Mizell to hit the transfer portal
Mizell took to social media to announce he would enter the transfer portal. Mizell was a legacy athlete to Florida, as his parents, Ebony and Will, were both members of the Florida track and field team in the 90s. A track standout himself in high school, Mizell was seen as a speedster with game-breaking potential.
And when Mizell was on the field, he consistently flashed and looked like someone who was ready to break out at any moment. In 2024, he had a great TD grab against Samford and had a go-ahead TD against Georgia. His most notable highlight was a catch and run TD that got called back against Mississippi State, that showcased the ceiling of Mizell in Gainesville.
But even with those moments, the signs were clear that Napier didn’t believe in Mizell. To close out 2024, Mizell was losing out on snaps to Marcus Burke, who would transfer for UCF at the end of the year. And even though Mizell got to work with the 1st team wide receivers in the spring, it was clear that Dallas Wilson and Vernell Brown III were creeping in to take his spot.
Prior to the season, Mizell stated, “If you're still sleeping on me, that's on y'all."
He went on to have fewer yards and TDs in 2025 than in 2024.
Injuries didn’t help, but even at the end of the season, when he got 50+ snaps against Ole Miss and FSU he failed to top 50 yards receiving in a single game this year and leaves Gainesville having only done it once in his college career (last year versus Georgia).
Mizell will still have two years of eligibility left.
