One of the things we wish college baseball would consolidate is the use of six different polls to rank teams. As we noted last week, Florida Baseball was ranked 11th by Perfect Game in the preseason poll, which is the lowest the Gators have been ranked to start a season since 2020.
D1 Baseball, which tends to be a bit more respected of a poll, just released their preseason poll, and even though they too have the Gators the lowest they have ever ranked them to start a season, they have the Gators high enough to continue a streak that no one else in the country can claim.
Florida Baseball: A New Era
The Gators are ranked 10th to start the season by D1 Baseball. Since D1 Baseball's relaunch in 2015, the Gators are the only team in the country to be ranked in the top 10 in each preseason poll the site has done.
There are question marks for Florida heading into 2025. First and foremost, the Gators have to figure out how to replace the production of Jac Caglianone. Also, if Liam Peterson and Pierce Coppola are going to hang onto their spots in the weekend rotation, they will need to take a step forward in 2025.
Florida had a wild 2024 season where they snuck into the NCAA Tournament by one game, but then went on a run that ended in the College World Series semifinals against Texas A&M, who enter the 2025 season as the top-ranked team in the D1 Baseball poll.
