After taking a couple of losses in recruiting over the past week, it’s always nice to get back on the winning train. Florida missed out on running back Trey Martin on Wednesday, but was able to secure the commitment of linebacker Robert Geathers on Thursday.
Hayes Fawcett was all over Geathers picking Florida over Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Geathers may not have a star ranking that is going to pop off the screen, but he is set to come to Gainesville with a football pedigree and a versatility that Gator fans will love.
Robert Geathers commits to Florida
Geathers is a linebacker listed at 6’1” and 195 pounds. All three major services have him as a mid-tier three-star, and he is ranked No. 582 in the 247 Composite.
But when one factors in that on film Geathers plays more like a Nickle/STAR LB, his size isn’t as much of a concern. And if one didn’t know any better, he plays with the physicality that one would expect from a 220-pound LB. Where Geathers shines the most is in pass coverage, and it is here he shows a fluidity and mobility that one would expect from a 170-pound cornerback. He can drop into coverage but still flash to the ball. He can even defend the wheel route, which Georgia players would probably take note of how to defend.
Essentially, there are a ton of directions Florida could go with Geathers once he arrives on campus and there are a ton of spots on the field that he could fill.
Speaking of Georgia, if the last name sounds familiar, that’s because he is the son of former Bulldog DE Robert Geathers. His grandfather, Robert Geathers Sr., also spent time in the NFL and USFL in the 80s.
Geathers popped up on the radar a bit later compared to other players in Florida’s class of 2027. He wasn’t even offered by Jon Sumrall until April, and he made an unofficial visit in early May. He made his official visit to Gainesville in late May.
Georgia and South Carolina were in the picture for Geathers, but it was Tennessee in particular that Florida had to beat out for his commitment. He took a visit to Knoxville earlier this month. It is notable how quickly Florida shot up the leaderboard for Geathers, considering he took a ton of unofficial visits to Tennessee prior to Florida even offering him.
His commitment now gives Florida 23 commits for the class of 2027. He is the third linebacker the Gators have landed for this class, joining Ja’Bois Smith and Ellis McGaskin. Florida shouldn’t be done with this class, as four-star DB Raheem Floyd is seemingly in a good position to commit to Florida. Kamauri Whitfield is another player Florida seems to be in good standing with.
The two major dominoes most are keeping their eyes on are five-star Easton Royal and Jalen Brewster, who recently had their official visits to Gainesville, and while they had plenty of positive things to say, their recruitments are still a massive toss-up as to whether Florida can land either player.
