From the Gulf to The Swamp, Florida Gulf Coast University baseball catcher Jon Embury has announced his commitment to the University of Florida, per Nick Marcinko of Gator Country. He was the 2026 ASUN Player of the Year after hitting .364, with a .655 slugging and a .429 on-base percentage. He hit 13 doubles, 17 home runs, driving in 60 RBIs, and 52 runs scored. He walked 20 times.

Florida Gulf Coast was eliminated from the ASUN playoffs on May 23 after a 6-5 loss to North Alabama. Eight days later, on May 31, Embury announced he was entering the transfer portal to become one of the top players in the portal. According to Baseball America, he was the No. 16 transfer in the portal. He traveled to Gainesville to visit the University of Florida earlier this week and on Thursday made it official that he will be transferring to UF to become a Gator.

Florida Baseball adds a much needed catcher

Florida was in need of a catcher after two of theirs were out of eligibility and they lost a third to injury. Now, they have their guy.

Embury, 6’0”, 224lbs was a 2026 Buster Posey Award Semifinalist, given to the nation’s top catcher; a 2026 Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year; and was named to the 2026 All-ASUN First Team.

Defensively, behind the plate, the junior from Port Charlotte had 418 putouts, 35 assists, and recorded just three errors to end the year with a .993 fielding percentage. He threw out 20 of 36 attempted base stealers for a 55.6 percent caught stealing rate as well.

Over the course of two seasons at Florida Gulf Coast he hit for a combined .335 AVG with 22 doubles, one triple, and 23 home runs. He drove in 83 RBIs and 67 runs scored, slugging .624 with a .395 on-base percentage.

Scouts say he will be a middle of the lineup bat for Florida.

Coming into the 2026-2027 season, the star-catcher is No. 80 prospect in the 2027 draft class, strongly for his huge exit velocities and his abilities behind the plate.

Embury is a player who will be an immediate impact player for the Gators.
